Personal Journey
Building a Blog from Rock Bottom
I didn’t start The Broke Money Blog because I had it all figured out; I started it because I didn’t.
After more than 15 years as a full-time caregiver for my mother, life pulled the rug out from under me. She passed away, and suddenly I was grieving, unemployed, and left with a mortgage I had no idea how I was going to pay on a fixed disability income.
I was over 50, skilled in tech support, and still, nobody was hiring. Every job application felt like tossing a pebble into the ocean, especially competing against folks with fresh degrees and glowing resumes.
Then came the so-called “opportunities.” You know the ones, the pay-to-play jobs, miracle systems, and online schemes promising overnight success.
I didn’t fall for them, but I won’t lie… when you’re broke and the bills don’t stop, desperation whispers pretty loud.
So instead of giving up, I decided to build something real. I started this blog with less than what most people spend on coffee for the week. A cheap domain, some borrowed knowledge, and a burning need to make something work.
I figured if I could share what I was learning about making money online, affiliate marketing, and digital finance, maybe I could help others like me—people trying to hustle their way out of a tight spot without getting scammed.
I’m not rich yet, but I’m committed. And every blog post I write, every affiliate product I test, every hard lesson I share—it all comes from real-life experience. This blog is more than a website. It’s proof that even when you’re broke, your voice still matters—and your story can still change.
